AIIC Netherlands Exhibition: From Nuremberg to The Hague – Multilingual Justice

The Dutch region of AIIC is proud to announce an exhibit on the interconnected story of simultaneous interpretation and international criminal justice system.

If you're in The Hague between 20 November and 11 December 2017, be sure to visit this show in the Atrium of The Hague City Hall. It takes the birth of simultaneous interpretation, at the first ever international criminal tribunal, as a springboard to introduce visitors to two interlinked worlds:

• The profession of conference interpreter and their work at international courts, AIIC, and the Dutch AIIC cooperative Congrestolken.
• The development of international criminal justice, the work of the various international courts and tribunals, and the Hague as International City of Peace and Justice.

You'll see photographs, videos and information panels on:

• The pioneers of our profession and conference interpreters today.
• Early simultaneous equipment and state-of-the-art booths fitted with live courtroom transcript, evidence display, and video-link.
• The fascinating work of the Nuremberg trials, the Yugoslavia Tribunal, the International Criminal Court and more (Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Cambodia, Kosovo, etc.).

Opening and Symposium

There will be an official opening ceremony on Wednesday, 29 November at 5 p.m. and most notably a half-day symposium on Saturday, 2 December, with top speakers on:

• The story of international criminal justice from 1945 to today (ICC).
• The latest on the brain of simultaneous interpreters (Max Planck Institute).
• AIIC: quo vadis? (AIIC)
